Growing Herbs For Fun and Profit
Growing herbs at home can become a great way to make money and have fun at the same time. If you love gardening, and have the room, consider growing herbs for profit as well as to spice up your own food. There is a need for many different kinds of herbs for seasoning food by restaurants and others so business should be good.
I have listed links on the right to some great books and ebooks. You can't go wrong with any of these books. I will not attempt to tell you how to grow all of the different kinds of herbs. Different herbs have different needs so you will need good reference books to the proper growing methods.
The 1st Ebook is #1 in a series called Gardening With Little Miss Greenfingers. It covers all aspects of herb gardening in containers indoors & outdoors. 17 popular herbs are described in detail with growing instructions & tips for cooking & preserving.
Written by Australia's master gardener John Bee, How To Grow Herbs & Veggies In Small Spaces goes above and beyond when it comes to teaching about growing herbs and vegetables. It is a must for those of you who haven't a lot of room. Comes with instructions on how to grow on balconies and in window boxes and other places.
Stop by your local farmers markets, health food stores, nurseries, restaurants, kitchen utensil stores, groceries and cooking supply stores to see how much demand they have for herbs and which kinds. Let them know that you are going to be growing herbs and would like to know if there are some that they are unable to get.
These would be good herbs to grow. Check the prices they are paying and tell them that your prices will be a little lower and when they will be available.
If you want to buy herbs until you get your garden producing, I suggest going to shopmotherearth.com. Mother has 176 pages full of information on herbs and vitamins and her site is a good read. This website is an excellent way to see how other people sell their herbs, both good and bad. Her site will also help you see that good money can be made online as well as marketing locally.
We hope we have helped you with what you will need to grow quality herbs to sell locally as well as online. The next page will focus on the business side of growing herbs.
